Held biennially, the Art in the Woolshed exhibition (AITW) holds a special place in the arts calendar of the greater Auckland region. It attracts the participation of some of New Zealand's leading painters, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers and glass work artists.

For the exhibition the Tawharanui woolshed is transformed into a gallery space. Larger sculptures are presented outdoors in the pohutukawa-studded area adjacent to the lagoon. All works in the exhibition are for sale

AITW 2010 is curated by Barry Lett and Mike Petre, and for the first time in 2010 we will have trained guides available to help visitors appreciate the works.

A further innovation in 2010 is the Environmental Art Project: works by three artists which are a response to some aspect of the environment, using time-based (e.g. moving image, sound, performance), experiential, conceptual, and/or installation practices. The artists selected for this project have an extensive background in an alternative visual arts practice.

Exhibition works of art are for sale. The Art Shop in an adjacent space offers smaller works and art and craft items. All funds raised go to open sanctuary projects.

Environmental artists Sophie Jerram, Brydee Rood and Raewyn Turner use a range of media, including LED lights, rubbish bags, a path, Tawharanui soil, and clay figures, to stimulate the viewer to think about the environment in a new way.

Art in the Woolshed is organised by TOSSI with the valued support of the exhibiting artists and the Auckland Regional Council.
