PLANTING DAYS 2010
Published on 04-05-2010Email To Friend    Print Version

Huge 2010 planting effort completedCongratulations to the TOSSI nursery crew and many planting volunteers for the production and planting of over 20,000 quality native seedlings. This task is so important for the open sanctuary, as habitat is everything for the wildlife we seek to support.

This year's planting in the Twin Hills area is part of a 3-4 year program. Over 20,000 plants were put in the ground - all grown at the TOSSI nursery from seed collected in our local ecological district.  Production costs for this year's plants have been provided by a grant from the Department of Conservation Community Conservation Fund.

More than 350 people attended the TOSSI and ARC planting days and we had further assistance from Warkworth Cubs and Scouts, Outdoor Pursuits Group and Nokia Siemens Networks.

Species planted this year included manuka, kanuka, kahikatea, cabbage, flax, mahoe, coprosma, whau, olearia, hange- hange, kawakawa, putaputaweta and pohutukawa.
