Saddlebacks Breeding at Tāwharanui
Published on 14-03-2013Email To Friend    Print Version

The ninety saddleback released at Tāwharanui Open Sanctuary in March 2012 have settled in well to their new home with many new fledglings observed in the past months.Almost all of the birds have been observed at some time since their release (86 out of 90) and most of the resident pairs have been observed with at least one chick. One pair even managed a brood of four chicks. Over the next few months dispersing juveniles will set up new territories and Dr Kevin Parker, who is studying the new population, would welcome reports of unbanded birds.
