Storm Damage
Published on 04-02-2011Email To Friend    Print Version

Cyclone Wilma casued havoc across the upper North Island on the 28th/29th January and Tawharanui was badly affected.  There have been large slips throughout the park, breaches in the predator proof fence caused by falling trees and slips, damage to roads and tracks, trees down and some plantings lost. The park was cut-off due to massive flooding and slips on the entrance road and some campers were forced to shelter in the woolshed.

Throughout the storm and the days that followed, rangers at Tawharanui have put in a massive effort in starting to repair the damage and also looking after wet and stranded campers.
