Wetland Restoration

Help Bring the Wetlands Back to Life

Tāwharanui Open Sanctuary Society (TOSSI) is restoring 8 hectares of wetlands drained over a century ago. This ambitious four-year project (2026–2029) will return freshwater and saline wetlands, kahikatea swamp forest, and open ponds to the landscape—creating vital habitat for nationally and regionally threatened species like the Australasian Bittern, Takahē, Pāteke, Grey Duck, Banded Rail, Spotless Crake, and Inanga.

The restored wetlands will support biodiversity, improve water quality, offer opportunities for wetland education and recreation, and help fight climate change

Your support will help make this happen.

Every donation—big or small—brings us closer to reviving this precious ecosystem. TOSSI is a registered charity, so all donations of $5 or more are tax deductible.
